Hello Cumberland Plateau'ers!

Change That Works is coming to Manchester on Friday, December 18 at 10:30 am for a visit to the local paper. We are looking for a couple of people who are willing to share their stories on why they support health care reform (have insurance but can barely afford it, have been denied for pre-existing conditions, etc.) at the newspaper office. Will you help us?
Please email me at kathy.chambers@changethatworks.net if you are interested in sharing your story or showing up at the office!

Best,

Kathy

Yippee! Grundy County took the lead and held it thanks to "ring-leader" Sue Bouldin-Parrot.

Universal health care been brought up by Bismarck in 1870s. Teddy Roosevelt brought it up in US.Wilson,FDR,Truman, JFK,LBJ,even Nixon brought up some kind of universal health care.so, ti si been discussed for a long time. It is overdue for us to stop talking and have one working.
I watched JonStewart debate health care with Betsy McCaughey who originated the "death apnels,"rationing,"cutting medicare," rumors. She started back when Clintons were pushing their helath care, she used the same arguments back then.

WINCHESTER TOWN HALL IN THE NEWS
Thanks to all of you who attended and made calls to build the great attendance at the Town Hall yesterday. There was good media coverage and Pat Wiser was featured in this Chattanooga Times Free Press article:
http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/2009/aug/19/davis-faces-rowdy-town-hall-crowd/

One health reform supporter reported that Congressman Davis's chief of staff, Beecher Frasier, who estimated that calls coming into their office are about 50/50 for and against reform. If you haven't called yet to express your support for health reform, please call now: 931.473.7251

Turn out and voice your opinion. Ask Davis, if no public option, then what?!

Wear white and bring a homemade sign.

If you are willing to make phone calls to build attendance at these town halls, please let me know by return email.

INFO AND WHAT YOU CAN DO
Many of you have sent links, videos and other information about health reform action opportunities. I have listed them below:

Faith for Health Over the next 40 days, people of faith are leading a national campaign for health care reform. Their website is http://faithforhealth.org/ Today, they sponsored a conference call with people of faith, lay and clergy, across the country in which Domestic Policy Advisor Melody Barnes and President Barack Obama participated. To listen to the call go to http://www.blogtalkradio.com/40mins4health Consider sending this to your pastor, rabbi or faith leader.

American Medical Association The AMA has endorsed a public option. The comments of the AMA President, along with Senators Shelby and Conrad and the Exec VP of AARP are featured on this Fox News video: http://www.ama-assn.org/ama/pub/health-system-reform/reform-fact-check.shtml

Rasmussen Poll The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 57% oppose the plan if it doesn't include a government-run health insurance plan to compete with private insurers. COUNTY PARTY PRIZE: GRUNDY TAKES THE LEAD

Grundy County can be proud of being represented by a Democratic representative in the Tennessee State House, the Tennessee State Senate, and the U.S. House of Representatives. They can also be proud of making the most phone calls into House District 62 as a percentage of their population. Grundy County may be small, but its impact is large.
