The republicans are to blame for the oil splill in the gulf. During the Bush administration, their was a vote to drill in the gulf. The majority of republicans voted for it. Their is no way to prevent an oil spill from happening in the gulf or anywhere. It was only a matter of time before an accident was going to happen. We should get our oil from Kuwait and Iraq. This is cheaper and safer. I know it will eliminate jobs but we should not risk destroying the environment.

President Obama is meeting with Senate leaders to hammer out a clean energy bill in the wake of this tragedy. Please join him and remember that if God wanted us to deplete our natural resources at such a great rate, then he would have not tucked them away under ground in his grace.!"

Marsha must be replaced, although she is not in my district, I find many of her comments inappropriate and her skills in logic is comparable to a dinosaurs. I am doing what I can to assemble a group at my college to canvass in other districts, I hope we have the oppurtunity to canvass in yours because I would enjoy nothing better than her be part of the group who will put her into retirement from the house. She is an emberassment to Tennessee.

Dear Congressman Roe,

I am disappointed that you chose to say no to the clean energy future with your
vote against the American Clean Energy & Security Act, HR 2454/2998. This
comprehensive clean energy jobs plan will help rebuild our economy, make us more
energy independent, and put America on the path to slashing global warming
pollution 80 percent by 2050, something necessary to protect the planet for
future generations.

I hope that you will reconsider your vote in conference when the
legislation comes back from the Senate. Clean energy and clean energy
jobs are vitally important to our economy and our environment. I feel
it mat be in the best interest of all, if we vote 'No" to your
name in November.

The Energy and Commerce Committee approved H.R. 2454, "The American Clean Energy and Security Act," by a vote of 33 to 25. This legislation is a comprehensive approach to America's energy policy that charts a new course towards a clean energy economy.
Marsha Blackburn and Bart Gordon are on the Energy and Commerce committee. The bill will also have to go through the Ways and Means and the Foreign Affairs Committees of which John Tanner is a member. Tennessee is represented by David Roe in the Education and Labor Committee, by John Duncan on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and on the Science and Technology committee by Lincoln Davis and Bart Gordon (chair)

National energy legislation will be focused this spring on the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce where Henry Waxman and Edward Markey are putting together a comprehensive energy bill due to be finished by Memorial Day. They have released a discussion draft of The American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 available at energycommerce.house.gov

The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy has issued a position statement on the bill and provides some opportunities to take action such as endorsing the National Call to Action on Global Warming that recommends following the recommendations of the 2007 U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change :).

1Sky describes the bill as a landmark first step by Congress that reaches for science-based targets to reduce global warming pollution, although there are several key elements in the draft that they would like strengthened before it goes to a vote in the House of Representatives. 1Sky.org is offering lobbying packets and guidance for anyone who wants to meet with members of Congress who are currently home until April 19th for a home district work period.

It seems to be giving the Natural Gas Commission more enforcement powers in cases of violations of the Act or "potential abuse of market power or market manipulation in wholesale markets regulated by the Commission" in order to be able to prevent significant harm to consumers or public interest.
Natural gas is increasing in popularity as an alternative to diesel fuel (Wal Mart, AT&T) and these amendments to the Nat Gas Act I think are intended to give Congress some ability to act (including refund) in case the price of natural gas gets too hot or to help avoid what 2005 U.S. and EU ethanol mandates did to the price of corn and corn related commodities. I vote yes.
