Energy Efficient should be our #1 low hanging fruit. TN homes are notoriously poorly insulated. I rented a house in EastNash once that had a plumbing pipe running up the outside of the house!
There seems to be lots of Stim $ for efficiency http://www.eecbg.energy.gov/

Tennessee needs to stop being a leader in nuclear waste before we can be called a green state. Radioactive waste from all over the country is being dumped in our landfills, and the incinerator at Oak Ridge is one of the few in the country that burns radioactive waste. Twice an environmental group has tried to get a bill through the legislature, last session and this, to ban the dumping of radioactive waste (excluding medical) from the landfills, and we go nowhere. TDEC seems to be in alliance with the nuclear industry, and allows the pollution of our state. And the so called environmental committees of the legislature seem to be controlled by Oak Ridge. The state takes in money for the nuclear waste, so we can't afford to stop taking this toxic stuff.
