Tennessee Democratic Party

The Official Community for Tennessee's Democrats

Take just three of the many false arguments against Health Care Reform and put them together and you have absolute proof of ignorance... First, let's be totally and unequivocally clear, these arguments are lies. They are designed to strike fear into would-be supporters and to stir up as much dissent as possible. They could not steal the actual election this time, so they now work at blocking what we the people voted for at every turn.

The three completely contradictory lies are these:
1. Health Care Reform will include death panels that will pull the plug on Grandma
2. The Public Option will amount to a "government takeover" of health insurance since private insurance companies will not be able to compete
3. We have the best health care system in the world

The next time you have the opportunity to talk to a right winger who has bought into the death panel argument all you need to do is ask if they also oppose Health Care Reform because the Public Option would amount to a "government takeover" of our health care system. They will almost certainly answer yes, and might even be impressed that you know this "fact".

Do you see the incredible disconnect from truth that is required to simultaneously believe all of these arguments? We already have the best system in the world but if we allow the government to make a new Public Option it will cause the current system to go out of business. The current system has to be pretty bad if they fear that private insurance companies will go under competing with a system that promises to kill you when you get old. How bad does our current system have to be to not be able to compete against a new system that is as bad as that?

We already have "Death Panels". They're called insurance review boards and make the decisions on whether to insure you, impose limits on your health care due to "pre-existing" conditions, or even refuse to issue a policy. When claims are submitted, they are the ones that decide if they will pay it, and the CEOs of several companies testified to Congress that they will continue their practice of terminating the policies of people who get sick! Thereby, in a real sense, terminating the life of the people that thought they had insurance.
It's appalling that anyone could defend that system. But you know Republicans and those who choose to stay uninformed, they think changing "USA #1" will cure anything.
Susan I agree completely. I am a registered nurse. I have seen the insurance companies manage care for too many years. I also know how important it is for everyone to address their end of life issues. That doesn't mean that everyone would choose the same option; but it is much easier on patients and families if these things are addressed before the need arises. We are already required to address this with each visit. This is not an issue, but some are trying to make it appear so.
I meant to say "chanting 'USA #1". It's hard to see this type.
Obama IN HIS OWN WORDS saying His Health Care Plan will ELIMINATE private insurance. See video at:

I watched the video, he didn't say even once that "his health care plan would eliminate private insurance." Lies are not needed if you really possess the truth. And any real "conservative" should advocate for single-payment health care anyway, because it is the most fiscally-conservative approach to providing health coverage to all Americans, its how the French manage it and you yourself said the French health care system was excellent, or something to that effect. What a walking contradiction..... "I'm a conservative" but "I'm against the most fiscally conservative solution." Mercy.....
