Let's turn Knox County blue! I'd love to hear from fellow Dems in the 2nd district-- especially those in 16N.

I would like to change the method that we do our county convention.

IMO,we should elect district reps & ward officers on the morning of the convention & allow everybody present to vote @ the county convention.

Futhermore,as we all know,RIGHT NOW,in Tn.,there is NO ID required to vote. The Republicans are trying to change that with the complicated ID bill they are pushing.

Therefore,I believe the Knox County Democratic Party should adopt the same ID requirements to vote @ the county convention as the Tn. law allows RIGHT NOW to vote in an election.

Kinda hard to argue FOR the present Tn ID election law & against the complicated GOP ID proposal.

But make an exception for the Knox County Democratic Convention.

2011 Knox County Democratic Convention

Ward,District & officers elected the the morning
of the convention.

Show up..sign the pledge..you vote!

Iwonder -- we elected them in meetings - well-advertised the week before.

There is so much business at the County Convention, I wonderif it's not better tohave separate meetings.

Wards and Districts need to be organized enough to have these meetingsandget people out.

Best wishes to all,
John

My first goal is to allow everyone attending the convention to vote.Simply eliminate the idea of delegates.

If folks think it's best to organize the districts & the wards @ meetings the week before thats fine with me

One thought,IMO,organizing the Party by wards is not the wave of the 21st century.

Over the last decade the % of Knox County voters voting @ their ward on election day has dropped every year.

By the 2008 presidential general election only 31% of the voters voted @ their ward on election day.

My question is..How many Knox County voters have NEVER voted @ their ward.

To 69% of the voters..they vote @ Downtown West or The UC..ect..ect..or absentee.

Could one conclude that we are putting a square peg in round hole when we organize voters around a concept they've never heard of?

Maybe Neighborhood Committees..Block Committees..
Building Committees?

Just talking.

Main goal...everyone attending the 2011 county conventin can vote.

my concept of building wards is not about a voting location, it is about electing a candidate. I honestly don't care where they vote, just that they do and preferably for a democrat. We have to organize so that we reach everyone in the county and it is already broken down this way for us so it would make sense to use it. The goal is that by next convention there will be so many active dens that it would be impossible to do of all in one day. If we only double the numbers it would be impossible to verify everyone through the election commission in one day. Even with the same number of 200, I know we would have had to be there another 2 or 3 hours.

I wanted to throw the idea of them who shows up gets to vote.I've always thought it the way to go.

For the 2011 Convention I'll talk the idea up with the Executive Committee..it will either be in the bylaws in 2 years ..or not.Regardless I'll be there & support the Party no matter what.

As far as wards or not I just threw that out as something we may need to look at...because we are headed down the road to the time that wards are not around anymore...not there yet & maybe not till late in the second decade of the 21st century.

you are right, with the new voting in the works, wards as we know them are really going to change. hopefully we will have so many active dems, everyone can just canvass their street!

On GLoria's last note. I challenge all that read this to invite as many democrats as you can to join the new TNDP site and the Knox County Democratic Party group. It is easy, just use the invite button on the top right next to your sign in name. Lets grow this party. 20 is a good start but we need a few thousand.

I agree with Gloria & Greg.

I won't bring the 2011 convention up to the committee for while.

But two more things..

1.If you can register to vote & at the same time legally sign a ballot referendum..why cant you register to vote @ the County convention & be allowed to vote?

2.Why not on the pledge simply add I affirm I live where I say I live & leave it @ that.No need for verification.

Just food for thought.
