Throughout the state of Tennessee there are classrooms of children whose teachers need our help purchasing materials they need to inspire their students to learn. Some need books. Some need overhead projectors or presentation materials. Some need software or musical instruments.

Each day next week, I want to share a different request with you from 1 of 5 teachers in high poverty classrooms from across the state of Tennessee. I hope you'll choose 1 project to help fund and give $10. Every donor is thanked by the teacher, and donations are tax deductible.

DonorsChose.org connects teachers with online donors to pay for teaching materials they need to inspire their students to learn. Some requests are matched with funds from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, doubling your contribution.

tbfeslogoDonorsChose purchases the requested teaching materials and ships them to the teacher. If you give $100 or more, the classroom sends you hand written letters. I got a package of them in January from students in Memphis that got a set of books collectively funded by your donations.

In the past year, you funded 10 requests from teachers in high poverty classrooms from across the state of Tennessee. Next week, let's add 5 more.

Join Tennessee Bloggers for Education on FaceBook. Use these online widgets to encourage your readers to help you fund these projects. Watch DonorsChose Board Member Stephen Colbert announce a $4.1 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

INTERESTING TITLE FOR OUR GROUP. IS ANYONE ACTUALLY OPPOSED TO EDUCATION IN TENNESSEE? WE NEED TO DEVELOP A SOLID PROGRAM FOR IMPROVING EDUCATION IN TENNESSEE AND DEVELOP A WOMB TO TOMB PROGRAM FOR IT; FROM PRE-NATAL CARE TO LEARNING AND TEACHING ALTHOUGH OLD AND RETIRED.

Damon Weaver breaks news from the White House

Today, Damon Weaver from the KEC TV News Team out of Kathryn E. Cunningham/Canal Point Elementary broke some big news about President Obama’s plan to address students across the country on September 8th.

The eleven-year-old Pahokee, Florida native asked some great questions concerning low-income communities, basketball, school lunches – and even bullies. At the end of it all, Damon announced "President Obama is now my homeboy too."
