Hello to my Fellow Tennessee Democrats...
I've followed politics and been involved to some extent since back in the Nixon days.
Yes, I'm a Vietnam vet, been in the military and saw what the world at war looks like. But that's NOT what the "7 out of 10" in the title is about.
I wish to bring to your attention a growing groundswell of activism which is running just under the surface of the political mainstream on BOTH sides of the aisle. I'll illustrate with a recap from the 2004 elections.
Back when the Bush media machine was in full swing, an arm of that effort commissioned a survey to be taken thru the AARP magazine Modern Maturity. This survey included a question asking this focused group of mature individuals what their positions were on a variety of issues. The one question which revealed a very surprising result was this (and I'm paraphrasing) "Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Do you believe marijuana should be legalized for medical use?" An astounding 71% of the respondents agreed with this statement by answering YES!
But the story doesn't stop there... The magazine had published in this same issue that it would release the results of the entire survey in it's following months issue. Well when the republican party learned the results of the survey, especially the one asking seniors if they believed marijuana should be legalized for medical use they pulled the survey results and refused to allow AARP to publish the survey results the following month for fear that it would fly in the face of the positions that the Bush administration had so fervently supported via John Ashcroft. In followup demands after the '04 elections, the membership of AARP were finally given the results of the survey which was only given on their website (never saw the light of day in print) and now even that webpage is gone!
I tell you all this so some candidate in the democratic party will "Wake up and Smell the Coffee!" ... The old kickdog of marijuana is no longer going to just lay there on the porch and let you keep kicking it! Moreover, the political power behind this issue is just waiting for a candidate who knows how to 'package the issue' to present it to the public for all the GOOD hemp can do for the economy. It could, without going into great detail, turn around nearly every single BAD thing that's happening now on the energy, economy, and political fronts. If you wish to get more details on this, I absolutely INVITE you to become educated on this issue. Once you see thru the fog of propaganda that's been around since Nixon declared the "War on Drugs", you too will agree with my long running email tag..... "Just Say Know!"
