Garry Lee Gentry commented on Harry Lasser's blog post Is conservative democrat the way to win in Rural Tennessee?
"I agree with your logic and we are either Democrats or not and we should run on jobs, decent pay and benefits, healthcare for everyone, and rebuilding our desperate middle class. I am sorry to tell you this but many of us who volunteer and work to…"

Is conservative democrat the way to win in Rural Tennessee?

I am making the following observations based on the results in the 62nd district special election and in anticipation of the upcoming election. Ty Cobb lost to Pat Marsh despite greater attention and resources being pumped into one state assembly seat race than we can expect in multiple races in every district next year. Based on my observation the race boiled down to who was most conservative. Mr. Cobb's point of emphasis seemed to be he was more conservative on the "abortion" issue that his…See More

Palin Hypocrisy

Sarah Palin, the former Mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, posts on Facebook that Obama wants to create "death panels" and the crazy right wingers are called to arms. So much so is there faux anger, that Republican Sen. Grassley, who himself incited crowds with concerns over grandma's facing down the death panels, now reports that the end of life counseling provisions are being removed from the proposed health care bills.Alas, the conservatives have their victory. They have saved grandma. But wait,…See More

Young Democrats

The DeKalb County Middle School has started a "Junior High Democratic Party." I think it is wonderful, and we as faithful Democrats should encourage and support these efforts as these children will soon be voters and, based on their demonstated desire to organize, future grassroots activists. There may even be a candidate or two amongst them. Here is a link to a story and photo www.wjle.com/node/7321.

40th District Needs a Democrat

Frank Buck served the 4oth District for well over two decades. He was a responsible advocate for this district and "took care of business." When a road needed to be built, or a bridge repaired, it got done. If you had a problem with a state agency, you could call Frank and the issue would be addressed. I believe it is called "serving your constituents."

This last election cycle Frank Buck retired after two decades of service to the people of the 40th district which presently includes… Continue

Why are the Republicans attacking the poor?

Two bills in the Tennessee house, one to limit lottery winnings and one to require drug testing for those receiving food stamps or unemployment are an overt attack on the working class and poor in this state. The clear implication is that people receiving food stamps must be using drugs and blowing their "food stamps" on lottery tickets.

Bank of America received more money from the federal goverment than food stamp recipients in this state yet the Republicans have made no call for BOA… Continue
