UNIONIZATION OF HEALTHCARE WORKERS

Thumbnail
ENABLING HEALTHCARE WORKERS BY UNIONIZATION.Can unions help the healthcare system by ensuring the rights and needs of each and every patient care delivery person? What are the needs and rights and how can they be enabled or augmented? How does a satisfied and enabled healthcare worker impact the delivery of healthcare? We need representation as we keep working; day in, day out. We are a rare breed and how we became that is alot of the story. We never have a choice of being off on holidays- we…See More

Another poster, was the one that told the prison story, claiming he worked at one. I had left the first part for you, and the second for Tom, with names before the comment, but maybe it all ran together.
I agree with you wholeheartedly on the pre-existing issue. I know well enough about that, considering that I have 2 that BCBS says they will NEVER cover. They completely denied any policy to my husband, who is a veteran of the Korean "conflict" and was shot at for his country. He has a while to wait before he's eligible for Medicare. That's how we support our Veterans.
And I believe we are in total agreement that there has to be major changes.
The insurance wasn't the only issue that caused the business to go under, but it was a major one, as it is for many small businesses.
Yes, I would have liked to have insurance offered, but I really liked the people I worked for, and my hours were flexible. The last business was a Harley-Davidson dealership and I was office manager. Being the one in charge of the books, I knew that even in the 90's when HD was "booming", the requirements for a dealership as set out by Harley Davidson consumed a great deal of income. They wanted to provide insurance benefits, but just couldn't.
But if we had a real single-payer government-INSURED (not run) plan like Canada, we could work wherever we wanted without worrying about keeping an insurance benefit. The employer would be able to hire more people, thus adding to the economy, and you wouldn't have the fear that is attached to the insurance system now. Though some employers do offer that benefit, the insurance company dictates (through costs) what your pre-existing is, your deductible (could be as high as $10,000), your co-pay, and what is covered, or what is not.
The system is gamed to profit the insurance company, regardless of what happens to you.

Hi -- great to hear from you!
A conflict has come up on Tuesday for me. If I'm unable to resolve it, I'll arrive late, but will still plan to come.
See you later,

You did a great job. Look forward to your call. Didn't make it to mass this AM. Have dreadful back pain. I'll have to attend what my friend calls the "mass of last resort" at St. Jude's. Looking forward to talking to you.
