A Powerful Quote Befitting the Republicans Seeking the Presidential Nomination

In the late 1960s, there was an edgy--perhaps worse than edgy by the standards then--television show on Sunday nights, The Smothers Brothers' Comedy Hour.  One of the most memorable cast members was Pat Paulson.  Pat Paulson gained notariety by becoming a nominee for the President of the United States, and offering his various campaign speeches on the show in about the most dull monotone.  Even after the show was taken off the air part way though its third season, Pat Paulson continued to run…See More

Heritage Foundation's "Saving the American Dream"

In today's Cal Thomas column in The Tennessean, he stresses the favorable plans developed and advocated by The Heritage Foundation.  Aside from the rank stupidity of some of the Heritage Foundation's ideas (selling off Federal lands, privitizing the FAA which would be funded by user fees, focusing on fully funding defense budgets to protect America's interests where no one can identify our enemy), they are focused on collapsing the Federal government by eliminating taxes and cutting all…See More

The Republican Disinformation Campaign

Back in the 1960s, I built a shortwave radio from a kit.  It gave me the ability to listen to radio stations around the world.  On Thursday nights, I would tune in the BBC to listen to the Pick of the Pops, a program that premiered the newest groups and songs in Great Britain--well before they hit the American shores. I would also tune to Radio Moscow and Radio Prague, and listen to their versions of news and events from around the world.  The Soviet propaganda machine did a marvelous job of…See More

Republican approach to cutting costs of foster care

In Michigan, a Republican state senator Bruce Casswell has introduced legislation that would require that all foster children would be allowed to purchase clothing only at Goodwill, Salvation Army and other used clothing stores.  His rationale for this:  “I never had anything new.  I got all the hand-me-downs. And my dad, he did a lot of shopping at the Salvation Army, and his comment was — and quite frankly it’s true — once you’re out of the store and you walk down the street, nobody knows…See More

The Trojan Horse in state legislatures

The Tennessee legislature--under the control of the right wing of the Republican Party is the agent for the American Legislative Exchange Council.  When one considers the many pieces of legislation moving through all the various state legislatures during the past couple of years, it is obvious there is centralized effort to push many laws that impede progressive causes, and in some cases, they intend to destroy the opposition. The Legislative Exchange Council is a front group for many of the…See More

Amazing..incredible...   Those who would argue science with the Bible are ignoring St. Augustine's admonition of 1700 years ago (talk about being timely!!)  His premise was that the Bible was never intended as a science book--or…

The citizens of this nation either have forgotten, or have no clue the battles that took place to achieve Roe v Wade, and don't realize the impact a reversal would mean--in terms of illegally administered abortions.  There was a time when…

"Concentrated Power"--the Republican Party objective

The Tennessee legislature has now taken the final steps to reverse the 1978 law allowing collective bargaining by teachers.  The Republican Party members of the legislature advocate for photo ID to vote.  The Tennessee Banker's Association pulled the legislative strings to weaken protections for home owners facing foreclosure.  The law requiring paper ballot trails for electronic election results is threatened--thus hiding or protecting any fraud perpetrated in the voting machines.  The…
