Garry Lee Gentry commented on Susan Acito's blog post 'Payroll Tax Holiday: The End of Social Security'
People need to start writing letter to the editor of newspapers all over the State/Country actually talking like Repubs about how how great life is going to be without Socail Security, Medicare, Food Stamps, Welfare, unemployment, etc, etc. …

Payroll Tax Holiday: The End of Social Security

We're being asked to swallow a whole lot of hogwash in the name of "working with Republicans". It's bull. If the continued millionaire tax bonus doesn't make you want to hurl, then delving into the details and the future outcome of the "payroll tax holiday" should send you into deep depression. It's the first real blow to end Social Security, as for the 1st time ever, Social Security payments would come from the General Fund. Long story short - when it's crunch time, social programs like Food…See More

Susan Acito replied to Franklin Montenegro's discussion 'Nuclear plants in TN' in the group Healthcare
My husband was born in Pennsylvania and remembers Three Mile Island very well. There is nothing safe about Nuclear plants! Chernobyl, anyone? Where do we want to dump the toxic waste?

You're spot on. Look at this recent Supreme Court decision. Its sickening. Its bad for democracy, and I'm so tired of fighting to get into power only to have our leaders step back and let the opposition lead them around by their noses. I…

Susan Acito commented on Donna Rodgers's blog post 'Bigger than Bush v. Gore?'
Most conservatives thought Roberts and Alito were going to be their saviors and strike down barriers between church and state, and overturn Roe V Wade. The 2 judges were appointed because they were CORPORATE attorneys, and would be favorable to big…

Good article at Air America As Republican strategist Lee Atwater famously put it, "if you’re explaining, you’re losing" -- in other words, the best defense is a good offensive. Since the rhetoric of the Right has always…

Amen, Mary. Dems tend to get scared and run away from their base when confronted, forgetting that it's the base and the campaign promises that got them elected in the first place. If we wanted Republicans in office, they would have been elected…

How Dems Manage To Beat Themselves

OK. I know you've seen that before, and it manages to raise your hackles everytime. It does for me, too, but what can we do?I know, we are disappointed and angry that it feels like we have been betrayed in Washington. After all the years of Bush literally bankrupting the country, Obama was supposed to come in and fix everything with ease. We had the majorities! We thought we could sit down and relax because after all, we won, didn't we? I won't go into the disappointments because the media is…See More

I am a JBC judge in Sullivan Co. In Fall 2008, we used the paper ballot machines for early voting. They were great. We processed a record number of voters and the average time that voters were in the room - from getting an application to voting and…

Tennessee Wants Secure and Verifiable Elections

Our goals is to encourage the Tennessee Secretary of State and State Election Coordinator to follow the current law and implement the Tennessee Voter Confidence Act. It is also to prevent legislation to delay the Act from passing in the Senate.See More

Susan Acito commented on Donna Rodgers's blog post 'Republicans Made Liberal a Dirty Word...So How About Using Progressive Democrat'
Ownership of media plays a big part in how "parties" are perceived. They're so afraid of being labeled liberal media that they let Republicans get away with all kinds of outrageous lies and don't call them out.

Thanks for the post Brad. Just wondrin, since we have so many hydroelectric dams in Tennessee, will anyone ever try to change things so that Tennesseans can use that power? I have three of those dams in close proximity to my home, but we have…

Yes, we do need to vote on election day. However, Liberal is not a dirty word. Soon, right wing media will be calling progressive a dirty word, and will be slinging the same crap at us. Don't be discouraged by Dem retirements. Though news…

Which Tennessee county do you live in?
Sullivan
Organizations that I belong to:
Sullivan County Democratic Women
Off Broad Street Players
Hobbies and interests of mine:
I love music, autoharp, guitar, dulcimer, and theatre. I've been in several theatre productions around the area, but my absolute favorite was "Honky Tonk Angels" which was a play based on the music of the Country Queens like Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, and Tammy Wynette. When I found out that I was going to get to stand in the middle of that darkened stage, with one spotlight, a skinny little black dress, and the song "Almost Persuaded", I almost wished the moment would never end. Oh, well. I am represented by Talent Trek Agency in Knoxville and have done commercials for The Food Network, and HGTV. I am a member of the "Off Broad Street Players, and we perform interactive Murder Mysteries at a variety of venues.
I love to sing my heart and started playing autoharp because it was the easiest instrument I could find to accompany myself. That led to dulcimer, guitar, psaltery, and accordion (this was a renewed effort).
I'm passionate about Civilians' rights. I use "Civilians" because too many people don't understand that "Civil Rights" extends to EVERYBODY, and fight against their own interest in misguided zeal.
My family has been in East Tennessee since before the Revolutionary War, and a grandfather is on record buying land in Claiborne County in 1752. For myself, I was born at Munal Clinic, a small hospital that stood where Pal's sells their awesome hamburgers right next to Berry's Pharmacy. Except for a short stint when I lived at Camp LeJeune Marine Base near Jacksonville, NC, I have lived here all my life.
I love this place and won't give up on it because of the rabid wing nuts. I believe it takes people like me and the other Democratic and Progressive bloggers who are coming to the forefront to gently let people know that they're not as Republican as they think they are.

Fall Kickoff For The 2010 Democratic Campaign

It's Fall and football time in Tennessee aaanddd...it's time to really Kick Off the 2010 Democratic Campaign. We had such a sucess in July with Muster on the Mount. A Lot of folks put a bunch of hard work into that effort and I want to thank everyone so much. Irene Wells sold over seventy tickets to that event and that was outstanding as were the efforts of so many others who worked hard and sold tickets. So, in the spirit of Muster on…

Point By Point Rebuttal of HR3200 Myths

I just received this e-mail. It is a good point by point rebuttal of the myths surrounding HR3200. There is also a link to an overview of the bill. If you go to the page, there is also a place on the right hand to vote in support or against this bill. Weigh in!

Corporate Protests Well Funded

This is my latest letter to the editor of the Kingsport Times-News. We were lucky in the fact that the President's Town Hall Meeting in Bristol was limited to Kroger employees. These protest groups are trying to deny others the right to interact with their representative, and are behaving like mobs.

I invite each one of you to write a letter to your paper. Online comments are fine, but you get more readership if you write a letter.

Susan,

Sorry your husband's company went under because he could not offer health insurance to his employees. I'm also sorry you never worked for any one who offered insurance to you. I don't know where the prison story came from-it wasn't in my comment. but I know that you do not speak for everyone.
