The Official Community for Tennessee's Democrats

Action Diary: spread support for Clean Energy & Strong Communities

****SPECIAL NOTICE**** We will be organizing a response to the Tea Partiers message of fear and anger!

This Thurs the Tea partiers are at it again. They plan a "march" to tell our Democratic US Congressman Bart Gordon "NO" to better healthcare, "NO" to clean, secure energy, "NO" to better jobs for Americans who need work, "NO" to repairing our ailing economy... That's NOT the message we believe in and we cannot let District 6 Congressman Bart Gordon think they are the only organized group in his district!

So, we'll have a rally of our own this week! But we won't be taking it to the streets in anger or fear, we'll meet at the New Hendersonville Library for the Sumner County Democratic Party monthly meeting to network together and build a strong community that cares about the future of our country.

Congressman Bart Gordon holds a Senior position on the Energy and Commerce Committee now debating the American Clean Energy and Security Bill. This legislation will create new green energy jobs, reduce Global Warming pollution, and transition our economy to a sustainable future. and we in Tennessee have an unprecedented opportunity to influence this bold climate and energy legislation.

If you can't make it to our meeting, please call Bart Gordon's Office in DC at (202) 225-4231. Even if you are not his constituent, let him know that ALL Tennesseans want clean energy jobs for our future and encourage him to continue to lead on this issue.

Call (202) 225-4231 and let him know the following:

I support a strong American Clean Energy and Security Act. The draft of this bill will be a landmark first step to address our energy and climate challenges. It is very important to me and my neighbors here in Tennessee that the bill be as strong as possible.
I support Rep. Gordon to help strengthen it in 4 key ways:
1. Make polluters, not tax-payers, pay for their pollution through 100% auction of carbon allowances.
2. Create secure jobs in solar, wind, and biomass industries and heal our economy with sustainable growth.
3. Stop burning dirty coal that causes asthma, mercury contamination, and other health and environmental disasters.
4. Ensure a smooth transition for workers, families, and businesses during the move to a clean and secure energy economy.

If you can be at our meeting this Thursday, you'll get to sign a thank you poster showing Bart Gordon how much we support and need new programs like the American Clean Energy and Security Act, health care reform this year, and a continuing cure for our sagging economy.

Join us to hear John McFadden, Executive Director of the Tennessee Environmental Council speak about Tennessee's plans for a sustainable clean energy future, green and secure jobs. John will be speaking to us about the current state of environmental legislation in Tennessee and take our questions as well. The mission of TEC is to educate and advocate for the conservation and improvement of Tennessee's environment, communities and public health.

Together we will build a positive community of people who will work together to solve our problems and enjoy a secure and prosperous sustainable future in Tennessee.

We start with strawberry shortcake fresh from Portland, TN and networking at 6pm. The meeting will be called to order at 6:30pm.

Directions:
The library is located at 140 Saundersville Rd. From 386, exit 7 Indian Lake Rd. Turn South on Indian Lake Rd, turn left on Saundersville Rd, library on right less than one mile down. Bring a friend as this promises to be an interesting and educational meeting. Join us!

Maria, You might have a small group in front of his office doing voter registration and getting signatures on a petition saying NO to the bailout or BREAK UP THE BANKS etc. It might serve to blunt their effort.
