"This article is the long version of a conference given to Columbia University of New York on September 21st, 2009, on the reform of the health insurance in the United States where the debate concerning the creation of a public and compulsory insurance rages.

"The French systems and American are compared around the major axes of the reform which the president Obama defends with pugnacity, in particular the creation of National Insurance Exchange where would reign finally a free-market economy over the market of the health insurance, convenient to a decline of the premiums. The prohibition on the medical underwriting, which reaches summits, or the credit institution of tax credits financing the acquisition of health coverage are directly inspired by the French system.
The figures, alone, give the vertigo , whether the number of Americans without any health coverage (over 45 million), the massive amount of deductibles, out - of-pocket costs or the federal state health spending (16% of GDP), growing exponentially. The weight of the libertarian and individualist ideology in the heart of the American nation is no less striking, as evidenced by the obsessive argument of "socialized medicine" "
