The Official Community for Tennessee's Democrats

OK. I know you've seen that before, and it manages to raise your hackles everytime. It does for me, too, but what can we do?

I know, we are disappointed and angry that it feels like we have been betrayed in Washington. After all the years of Bush literally bankrupting the country, Obama was supposed to come in and fix everything with ease. We had the majorities! We thought we could sit down and relax because after all, we won, didn't we? I won't go into the disappointments because the media is certainly taking care of that, so we should give up, right? After all, that's what the Tea Partiers and the Republicans want us to do!

We knew Health Care reform wouldn't be easy. Especially since we really don't have 60 votes in the Senate. We could never depend on Traitor Joe, and ConservaDems have certainly done everything they could to make sure Obama fails.

So let's take a little trip back to the past. Remember Bush? Remember the illegal wars he started? How's that big tax cut working out for you? Oh, you're not in that 1/2 of 1 percent of Americans who saw a real tax cut? Too bad. Republicans love to talk about the free market, but they don't think a company should be regulated or be held accountable for the actions they take. Did your life get better under Bush? Mine didn't. We saw neighbors lose their houses because of job loss, and many that are close. How do you like the government, or someone they're allowing to do it, listening in on your phone calls and monitoring your internet traffic and e-mails? How about Katrina? How did it feel to watch a large AMERICAN city drown? We're in this mess because of Bush's policies of spend, spend, spend, and keep it off the budget. I could go on and on, but you get the point.

We've heard a LOT about Dems who are so mad they won't get out and vote. That is the same as voting for Republicans. It doesn't teach any lesson except that Dems are discouraged, and easily divided. Divide and Conquer. That's all Republicans have to do to take back over. And no matter how badly Republicans fail, they don't criticize in public, and they VOTE, en masse.

What we have to do is make sure we have more progressive candidates, and actually back them, and vote for them. We have to call the county election office and ask if they need poll-workers, because they always do. We need eyes and ears in the polling place to make sure that things are on the up-and-up and it's a clean election, especially here in Tennessee. Although the coming election will not be for a President, it still matters who runs the State, and who we send to Washington as Senators and Congress.

If you're still having doubts, think Supreme Court. It matters who'll be in office for the next few years, as at least two Judges will be retiring. Do you really want another Scalia or Thomas?

You're spot on. Look at this recent Supreme Court decision. Its sickening. Its bad for democracy, and I'm so tired of fighting to get into power only to have our leaders step back and let the opposition lead them around by their noses. I will always vote, always vote Democrat, even when I have to hold my nose and vote for Lincoln Davis, etc, but I expect them to do their jobs and not the will of those who didn't vote for them, whilst claiming those people are their constituents.
