Tennessee Democratic Party

The Official Community for Tennessee's Democrats

With our new website up and the Party's Chairman on 6 Talk Shows in 2 weeks, things are beginning to roll. Check out our website: www.democratsofmadisoncounty.org. Recent comments by the Chairman about Republican 'brownshirts' put the local right wing loonies into a tizzy. You just have to tune into the Madison County scene. We are leading the fight for healthcare reform while preparing to host the SOS Training September 26 at Lane College. Our Party is growing stronger each day.

Republicans Demand Apology from Lots of Democrats for 'Brownshirts' Remark

oie_fascism.jpg
Republicans are

again demanding an apology
from Madison County Democratic Party chair T.
Robert Hill, or from just about anybody else in the Democratic Party for
that matter. John Tanner, Jim Kyle, Roy Herron, and Mike McWherter are all
"noticeably silent," says an outraged state GOP chair Chris Devaney.

Of course, Devaney doesn't really care whether anybody apologizes for Hill, who called Young Republicans "brownshirts" for organizing town brawls on health care reform. Devaney thinks that, by publicizing Hill's remarks,
he's making Democrats look bad, showing "the disconnect Democrats have with
everyday Tennesseans on issues such as health care."

I don't know about that. Devaney's comments might only show people the disconnect between Republicans and reality. I think most people probably would agree with Hill. These mobs do remind you of Nazi Germany in the way
the brownshirts disrupted political meetings and stifled opposition.

Senate Democratic caucus chair Lowe Finney did say he thinks Hill ought to consider apologizing,
but Hill's standing by his comment:

"I'm sorry. I just find their tactics of intimidation and name calling totally unacceptable, especially when they're aimed at congresspeople
and others," Hill said. "It's unfortunate they've taken the debate of a
very serious matter to this level."
