Back in the 1960s, I built a shortwave radio from a kit. It gave me the ability to listen to radio stations around the world. On Thursday nights, I would tune in the BBC to listen to the Pick of the Pops, a program that premiered the newest groups and songs in Great Britain--well before they hit the American shores.
I would also tune to Radio Moscow and Radio Prague, and listen to their versions of news and events from around the world. The Soviet propaganda machine did a marvelous job of weaving enough tidbits of truth into the lies and half-truths to make their reporting almost seem credible.
Listening to members of the Republican Party in 2011, I've found they learned well from the Soviets in the art of disinformation. Lies, distortions and misstatements. Vlad and Joseph would be proud!!
