Tennessee Democratic Party

The Official Community for Tennessee's Democrats

Let me share with you why I decided to write this first and then I will share with you how Democrats can win in Tennessee and all over the United States in November. I have been thinking all of this for a long time but yesterday a heated argument with a Republican in my place of business made all of this clear to me. Yesterday my Roy Herron for United States Representative bumper stickers were sitting on my counter, when a customer said something about it and then went on to tell me how bad the Democratic Party is, as Republicans love to do. Well I had to set the record straight, I had to share with him one reason of many that I vote Democrat. I shared with the man {who happens to be 67 years old} Republican United States Representative Paul Ryans views {and the majority of Republicans agree} on Social Security and Medicare. Ryan calls it "A Roadmap for America's Future". I call it "Sticking a Knife in the Backs of People 55 and Under". We all know Republicans have been against Medicare and Social Security benefits from the beginning, Some are against it in public and some in private,{but all want to end Social Security and Medicare}. I asked the man "If you were 50 years old , would you vote for your Republicans then ,knowing that they want to take away or water down your future Social Security and Medicare benefits?" I didn't get an answer......... Another man asked "what about your kids that are in their 40's, do you not think they deserve the same benefits that you are receiving, when they retire???" The Republican said "my kids are out enjoying their lives and having a good time. They are not paying any attention to all of this like he is ."{he was referring to me}......................................... Now this gets to my whole point on how Democrats win and even more importantly saving Social Security and Medicare for my generation and everybody 55 and under. We as a party {and when I say party , I mean the National Dem Party and the Tennessee Dem Party} must start a National Campaign including Town Hall meetings, media coverage, and keep informing and educating people 55 and under that the GOP want to take their Social Security and Medicare benefits away from them. We have to explain that if Republicans take control that this will happen. We have to make them understand that although they are not thinking that far ahead about their life after retirement, that they or their friends will need these much needed services one day. We can all think of many Senior Citizens who would be in awful financial shape if they did not have that Social Security check or Medicare {I can think of hundreds right here in my own community}. My generation will one day be Senior Citizens and if we allow these Republicans and Tea Partiers to have their way, my generation will not have these services. My generation should be fighting mad that these Republican ideas are even discussed, WE WILL NEED THESE SERVICES ONE DAY!!! This is the message that we Democrats must keep driving home!! We must explain this in detail to Tennesseans and every American. I believe if you spread this message then Democrats shall gain ground, but I am afraid if we stick to the same old campaigns then life as we know it as Tennesseans is all but over. Folks I live in a Democrat county {well at least it use to be} , I see these folks talking everyday and if we do nothing then I am afraid our cause is over. We must educate the people about the Republicans plans on Social Security and Medicare, and we must take the fight to the Republicans! If we do this and do it right then I don't see how we can lose!

We need not be Fearful of hurt feelings when we tell the truth, the GOP only cares for those with an "inc" at the end of their name.

I agree with Greg, the republicans are beating us over the head with with the deficit day in and day out, I can't even remember how long they have talked about ending SS but each election cycle it's the same. How long have they been telling us people ae lazy they don't want to work. We know better, but few say anything. Cutting unemployment benefits for millions of Americans will without a doubt cause more damage to our economy, and this is what they are counting on. Election 2010 and 2012 is why they want to stop unemployment benefits, not the deficit.
