What Is So Hard About Passing Bills Through Congress?

Why are they having so much trouble passing health care reform in Congress? There is an ammendment to a bill just signed into law by President Obama that make attacks on gays lesbians etc. a hate crime. It is attached to the military spending bill. That's like taping a mosquito to a 747. They should attach an antennae to it with a tennis ball on top so they can find it if this hate crimes statutute ever needs to be invoked and I hope it never does. Democrats in Congress moan and groan constantly about not being able to get their health care, environmental and labor legislation passed. I am sure Republicans have some things they would like to see passed too. Why not attach one bill to another. You could even match them up by drawing them out of a hat the way the hate crimes and military spending bills were probably conjoined. But I guess war is a hate crime too so maybe those two were meant to go together. Do you know of any other issues that could be paired up to make for easy passage?
I bet health care reform would pass faster than bird feed through a goose if you paired it with an extension of tax cuts for millionaires. Have you ever seen a reformed millionaire? He would be so rare as to be the Sasquatch of Wall Street. What about the card check bill that makes it easier for working people to join a union? They could pair it with extending No Child Left Behind. Not only would they not eat their veggies, before long they would be in school three months and out for nine. You could piggyback global warming onto another bailout for the coal and oil industries, and when the environment improved most of us would be able to move up to a bigger hut or cave. Finally Congress could raise the minimum wage to $10 which would be the same wages as 1968 adjusted for inflation. This could be paired with the consumer financial protection bill because then we might have some finances that needed protecting. I doubt this partisan bill would pass but you can't win them all.

Among other reasons, Obama, Pelosi, Reid and the rest said they are rushing health care through passage to save the lives of Americans without health insurance. Then why will it not take affect for another three years after passage?

I hope Chip Forester reads these comments but I pledge to NOT donate one dime or knock on doors or phone bank all of which I have always done to elect Democrats if our Party does not pass real health care reform and not a corporate welfare bill for the insurance companies! I am also writing and emailing every Union out there that have always supported the Democrats and asking them to take the same position. I recently sent a petition to the UAW with over 1000 signatures on it asking them to take the position that Unions not continue to support Democrats only to be sold out to the lobbyist later.
