The Official Community for Tennessee's Democrats

Today is September 11, 2009. Today is not about us. Today is about the dad that didn't come home from the office, today is about the wife that did not make back to the gate at the airport, today is a day is about the child that will not grow up knowing his mother, today is about the ones who will never be able to tell their friend, lover, wife, husband, mother, father, son, daughter that they love them ever again. Today is about those that gave their time to help, with no thanks needed or expected, to search through the wreckage of a once great icon of the New York City Skyline, sacrificing, their time, their energy, and with some eventually their health. Today is a day that we must remember those that have fought and died for this country, so many that it is unfortunate that I can not begin to list them. Today on September 11, we must remember that 8 years ago on this VERY day, that our American way of life was change forever. As my Grandmother always said, "Every dark cloud has a silver lining." This dark cloud too had a silver lining, after the horrible events of that day, WE were the people of the United States, WE stood united, we were not Democrats, we were not Republicans, we were not northerners, we were not southerners, we were not African- Americans, we were not Mexican-Americans, WE were just Americans, united by only one thread, one common bond, a new sense of love and pride for our country, The United States of America! We came together and we stood with our neighbor. Post September 11 there was a renewed sense of love and apprecition for our fellow man, the elderly lady that you once brushed past, you stopped and helped her up on to the curb, your neighbor you carried her grocery bags for her, you stopped and pulled up your neighbors trash can from the end of the driveway, you slowed down and moved at a slower pace and took in the world. You called your mom and told her, "I love you", you hugged your son just a little tighter when he left for school, you sat as a family at supper time and said grace, you turned off the television and played scrabble, you talked with your family or friends, because deep down you knew, you never know when your last day will be, and you realized it very suddenly when everyone in America was turned upside down buy the events that unfolded in the mattter of hours. The war that we are currently fighting I know is VERY unpopular, but peace has to start at home, I challenge you today, to do something unexpected and nice for a total stranger, could be something as simple as giving the lady that works at the drive thru a compliment, it doesnt cost you anything and trust me you will feel better when you do it. Then leave a comment on this blog and tell me what you did and how you felt! Peace be with you!
