“…four Nilla wafers and a cup of coffee…”
Democrats recently gathered in Nashville to remember Governor Ned Ray McWherter, who passed away in April of 2011. It was an emotional night as family, friends, and those who worked closely with Ned shared stories of his legendary commitment to helping everyday Tennesseans.
The TNDP also unveiled a Collector’s Edition poster commemorating a well-loved quote from Ned’s campaign for Governor. As the story goes, when a reporter asked him about his readiness to be Governor, Ned said, “Just give me four Nilla wafers and a cup of coffee and I’m ready to go to work.”
Ned’s quote perfectly sums up his no-nonsense work ethic and common-sense approach to public service. And it’s an example of why his legacy remains such a deep well of inspiration for all Tennessee Democrats.
We presented the first of 1,000 numbered editions of this commemorative poster to Ned’s son, Mike McWherter, Jackson Day. And now you can get your own edition of this special printing for a contribution of $100 to the Tennessee Democratic Party.
